Our Collaboration Partners

SMART Conversations®

SMART Conversations® empowers families with the skills needed to achieve productive results in every conversation.

Our Social Enterprise Model

The Dignity Institute (TDI) and SMART Conversations® (SC) operate as a connected social enterprise grounded in shared values and shared practice. SC serves as the leadership and organizational development arm, while TDI focuses on leadership and life skills  learning for youth.

Together, we model the behaviors we teach—clear communication, mutual respect, and trust—across workplaces and classrooms.

How SMART Conversations® Supports TDI’s Mission

SMART Conversations® brings proven leadership tools, curriculum, and revenue to support TDI’s long-term impact. SC contributes 15% of annual profits to TDI, creating a funding stream that helps expand TDI’s youth programs and community partnerships. This structure allows donor dollars to go further while ensuring that the same communication and leadership practices taught to professionals are used in TDI programs with young people.

This is how we walk our talk: leadership development that strengthens organizations also fuels dignity, opportunity, and growth for the next generation.

Stories of Transformation

Empowering Youth Like Tyre to Dream and Achieve

I’d like to introduce you to The Dignity Institute, where we empower youth facing significant life challenges to unlock their potential and achieve their dreams. Through our programs in financial literacy, art therapy and leadership development, we’ve created a space for young people to grow, heal and thrive.

Sisters Who Found Their Voices Amaya and Lila

When Amaya and Lila first joined our art program, they sat together quietly, avoiding eye contact and answering questions with one-word responses. They were polite but cautious, uncertain about what to expect or whether they could trust us.

From Helping Others to Building a Future

We met Luis at our art program at the Franklin Park Housing Tenants Association. From the start, his warmth stood out. He was the first to arrive, the last to leave, and always eager to help the younger kids with their projects. His kindness and focus made a strong impression on everyone around him.

Sofia and the dress

Sofia Martinez was beyond excited for her quinceañera. It was her dream day, a milestone symbolizing her transition into adulthood. She had set her sights on a beautiful dress—a $1,500 gown she thought would make the occasion unforgettable. Without hesitation, Sofia spent her entire savings on the gown, convinced it was worth every penny.

Mission

We equip  vulnerable youth with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to thrive in school, work, and life.

Through custom-designed financial literacy, leadership development, and arts enrichment programs—each grounded in our signature SMART Conversations® social-emotional learning platform—we prepare young people for lifelong success.

Vision

Our vision is to help create a world in which every young person has equitable access to the learning, guidance, and opportunities needed to realize their full potential.

By fostering confidence, critical thinking, creativity, resilience, and leadership, we seek to prepare youth to navigate complexity, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and achieve lasting success in school, work, and life.

Through this work, we aim to help build stronger individuals, stronger communities, and a more just future.

Our Principles

At The Dignity Institute, we believe every person has inherent value and deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.

A person’s worth is not defined by race, religion, income, education, or life circumstances. This belief guides our commitment to creating affirming environments where young people can build confidence, discover their strengths, and pursue lives of purpose, leadership, and self-sufficiency.
