Giving high school dropouts a second chance at success.
Our “Pathway to Profession“ curriculum gives teens who lack direction and focus a space to learn self-management skills and job skills.
We give students who learn and think differently, the opportunity to discover themselves through the six elements of positive hip hop. Through experimenting with the elements, exploring their creativity and having an outlet for self-expression, they grow and develop.
Our portfolio-based curriculum includes the following:
- History of Hip Hop Culture
- SMART Conversations® Life & Leadership Skills
- Professional Development
- Visits from successful artists across all genres
- Financial literacy
- Job fairs
- Entry-level jobs with companies providing growth opportunities
Youth artists will be held accountable through formal mentorships; relationships with social workers, when needed; and other support services that will ensure they complete the program successfully.
In addition to coursework, they will be required to produce a portfolio of their work, which may include a CD of their songs, a book of poetry, a graphic design portfolio, etc. They are also required to work with a team on a final project, which may include a sneaker exhibit or fashion show, a concert, an art exhibit or other public demonstration of their accomplishments.
At the conclusion of 10 months, each student will be placed in an internship for two months where they will be further mentored and evaluated for potential full-time employment.
